Character Sheet
I’m so glad to hear that things are going smoothly with the cat — that’s such a huge win and a great sign of how adaptable he can be when he feels safe and understood.
Now that integration is going well, we’re shifting focus toward Freddy’s leash reactivity and how he’s feeling in the neighborhood. Since walks have become more of a stressor than an outlet, it makes sense to adjust his routine in a way that supports both his comfort and his physical needs.
Here’s the plan we discussed:
1️⃣ Pause daily leash walks
Leash walks are creating a lot of tension for both of you, and Freddy doesn’t seem to truly enjoy them. Since he’s comfortable pottying outside, you can give him a break from structured walks and instead plan 1–2 “sniffy walks” each week. These can be relaxed, exploratory outings where he can move freely on a long line and engage his nose — maybe in the woods nearby, at the school fields after hours, or quiet park and church lots.
2️⃣ Add short “Watch the World” sessions
Use some of that former walk time for low-stress observation sessions, practicing part one of “Look At That.” The bench on the hill or even a window view at home can work perfectly. Keep these short and positive so Freddy can process what he sees without getting overwhelmed. This helps him build comfort in the neighborhood without the added stress of walking through it.
3️⃣ Explore more mental enrichment options
Since his arthritis limits some physical activities, we’ll focus on engaging his brain. A few options include:

Outside of Like Magic, you might also enjoy exploring Sniffspot for safe, novel off-leash time, E Foley’s Dog Training for local agility drop-ins, or Fenzi Dog Sports Academy for flexible virtual classes.
Overall, this plan should give Freddy the balance he needs — less stress from walks, more opportunities to engage his brain, and plenty of chances to enjoy his environment in a way that feels good to him.
