Introduction to Odor

Intro to Odor is the next step of your dog’s Nosework education! Over Intro to Nosework, your dog’s learned the game, what to expect, and how to channel their natural searching abilities into a focused game for the two of you. You both practiced in increasingly challenging environments, on and off leash, while you learned the handling skills to keep up with your pup.

Intro to Odor takes those skills and transfers them to searching for more than food. We will introduce the NACSW oils: birch, anise, and clove and use the skills your dog has already built to teach them to search for - and start to tell you about - them. While we do so, we will continue to build your handling skills so you’re growing right alongside your dog.

Finished Introduction to Odor or Druid Class? The Scent Circle is where you go from here. Assignments will move through categories loosely — vehicle searches, suspended and elevated hides, containers and inaccessibles, adding difficulty through distractors and blanks, handling challenges, and trial prep that goes beyond the search itself. Most weeks will ask you to find new search areas, new environments, new puzzles for your dog. The work stays interesting because the world is the classroom.

The Scent Circle

With a focus on increasing complexity and difficulty in searches, week searches will be offered following a loose rotation of skillsets, all tailored to individual goals and progression.

Once a week, class will meet to review searches and analyze together to continue to grow both as a community and as individual teams. Whether your goals are trial-focused, or solely on the relationship and behavioral benefits of Nosework, The Scent Circle is home for a supportive community with lessons tailored to your growth.

The Scent Circle is a monthly membership with weekly searches and review, chats and lectures shared in group course space, and regular weekly meetings to discuss and review recent searches. It is available to Introduction to Odor graduates on rolling admission beginning 08/11, meeting weekly on Tuesdays at 6pm EST.
